📈 Power Rankings: Three new entries as Leverkusen rise

It’s felt like one of the most pivotal weeks of the season so far with top of the table clashes and the Champions League returning.

Here’s who we think has impressed.

10. Sporting (🆕)

Sporting are in the Power Rankings for the first time this season having now won nine league games in a row.

The Lisbon giants are level on points with Benfica at the top of the Primeira Liga having hammered Braga 5-0 last time out.

Former Coventry man Viktor Gyökeres has been the star of the show in recent weeks, netting 16 goals in 18 league appearances.

9. Manchester United (🆕)

For the first time in a long time, things seem to be looking up at Manchester United.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has finally been given Premier League approval to become a part-owner at Old Trafford and Erik ten Hag’s men have won three in a row.

The Red Devils latest victory came at Villa Park on Sunday with Scott McTominay firing in a late bullet header.

8. Borussia Dortmund (🆕)

After a disappointing start to the season, Borussia Dortmund might finally be clicking into place.

Edin Terzic’s men are now unbeaten in the Bundesliga for three months having drawn two and won three in their five matches since the winter break.

Last Friday’s win over Freiburg was arguably the most impressive of the lot as Donyell Malen scored twice in a comprehensive 3-0 win.

7. Paris Saint-Germain (👍 Last week: 9)

Top of Ligue 1, into the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France and with a decent advantage in their Champions League last 16 tie.

It’s been a long time since Paris Saint-Germain have looked this good.

Kylian Mbappé continues to shine but the capital club now have an added defensive solidity to their attacking brilliance.

6. Liverpool (👎 Last week: 4)

Liverpool got back to winning ways last weekend as they eventually triumphed over a spirited Burnley side.

Three headed goals from the Reds attacking triumvirate saw JĂŒrgen Klopp’s side win 3-1 as they returned to the summit of the Premier League.

It’s hard to shake the feeling though, that Liverpool’s defeat at Arsenal two weeks ago has changed the narrative in the English top flight.

5. Arsenal (👍 Last week: 8)

A win so good, here at Onefootball we proclaimed it ‘one of the best performance of 2023/24‘.

Arsenal were simply sensational last weekend in their 6-0 demolition of West Ham, claiming their biggest away victory in over 60 years and putting a marker down for the rest of the Premier League title contenders.

It really was that good.

4. Real Madrid (👎 Last week: 3)

It was a week of mixed blessings for Real Madrid.

Los Blancos were exceptional in their top of the table battle with Girona last weekend, beating the Catalan side 4-0 with Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham starring.

The latter however, suffered an ankle injury which kept him out of their Champions League fixture with RB Leipzig, with the Spanish giants narrowly winning 1-0 at the Red Bull Arena.

3. Manchester City (👎 Last week: 2)

A sense of ominous momentum seems to be surrounding Manchester City at the moment.

They may have dropped down one place in our standings but that’s purely because of the excellence of others and not their own performances.

Pep Guardiola’s side – even if they’re not at their very best right now – keep on winning and winning and winning.

City struggled against Everton last weekend but got over the line thanks to Erling Haaland’s double, whilst Copenhagen were put to the sword in a relatively easy Champions League encounter.

2. Bayer Leverkusen (👍 Last week: 6)

If Arsenal’s performance last weekend impressed us, Bayer Leverkusen’s left us utterly speechless.

Xabi Alonso’s side took on Bayern Munich in a top of the table clash that would establish the winner as the clear Bundesliga favourites.

If there was any doubt before kick off about who was the bookies’ pick for the title, that wasn’t the case on 90 minutes.

The Werkself were utterly dominant as they beat Bayern 3-0 to go five points clear at the top of the table.

1. Inter (No change)

Ranking-toppers for us again this week though are Inter who, despite a daunting fixture list, have now won seven in a row.

The Nerazzurri have faced Lazio, Napoli, Fiorentina, Juventus and Roma in the past four weeks and have won all of them by an aggregate of 10-2.

Daniele De Rossi’s Roma were their latest victims this past weekend with Marcus Thuram impressing in a brilliant 4-2 victory in the Eternal city.
