📈 Power Rankings: The final top 10 before the World Cup

A last hurrah before a winter hiatus. Here is our updated list of the top 10 form teams in Europe as they take a break for the World Cup.

10. Manchester City (👎 Last time: 7)

That is not how Pep Guardiola planned on City’s pre-World Cup run ending. The previous weekend’s late winner against Fulham should have been warning enough but City just never really got going against Brentford on Saturday and this time it was the west London visitors who scored at the death.

A bitter blow sees the Premier League champions head into the break five points adrift of leaders Arsenal.

9. Juventus (👍 Last time: 10)

What crisis? We know things started slowly, we know Juventus struggled through their Champions League campaign and were knocked out, but look at them now. They’re flying.

Six Serie A wins in a row, including recent victories against Inter and Lazio, suggest a corner has been turned as Juve have risen to third in the table.

8. Barcelona (No change)

There was no Spanish football at the weekend, so Barcelona remain top of LaLiga after their brilliant start to the season.

7. RB Leipzig (👍 Last time: 9)

Marco Rose’s side are unbeaten in 13 across all competitions, winning 11 of those, and have won six in a row. That’s not bad.

A run powered by goals, they have now won four in a row in the league (where they are unbeaten in eight) and now sit third in the Bundesliga table.

6. Benfica (👎 Last time: 5)

Others are simply playing tougher games, but that’s not Benfica’s fault and they’ll have the chance to prove us wrong in Europe.

For now they drop a little but it’s no reflection on them as their unbeaten start to the league season — 12 wins, one draw — rolls on.

5. Arsenal (No change)

Five points clear at the break — who predicted that? Arsenal toiled a little at Wolves but left with all three points and another clean sheet.

Not only are they top of the table with the best start in the club’s history, but they’ve also played eight of their 14 games away from home and are doing it despite a Gabriel Jesus goal drought. Good going.

4. Newcastle (👍 Last time: 6)

Third place, two points behind Manchester City, and absolutely deservedly. Newcastle are now 10 unbeaten in the Premier League and continue to surprise.

They are defensively brilliant and good going forward too.

Dare to dream?

3. PSG (👎 Last time: 2)

There isn’t much to add on PSG, who remain unbeaten and stroll into the winter break five points clear in Ligue 1 with the best attack and best defence in the league.

2. Bayern Munich (👍 Last time: 3)

Bayern Munich just look formidable right now, winning six Bundesliga games in a row (as well as Champions League matches in between) to storm clear at the top of the table.

To think there were doubters just a month or two ago.

1. Napoli (No change)

There really are no superlatives remaining. Napoli have now won 11 Serie A matches in a row.

That speaks for itself.
