📈 Power Rankings: Surprise Serie A leaders enter

10. Torino (🆕)

There’s an unfamiliar look at the top of Serie A, with the league’s traditional giants trailing surprise pacesetters. Empoli and Udinese both sit inside the table’s top five, while Torino have taken the lead after five games.

So often in the shadow of Turin neighbours Juventus, Il Toro are unbeaten after five games and hit top spot after beating Hellas Verona 3-2 on the road last weekend. Former Southampton striker Ché Adams scored the winner as he continues a strong start to his time with Torino. A midweek cup exit will disappoint, but there’s plenty to be pleased about in the league.

9. Real Madrid (👍 Last week: 10)

Real Madrid are beginning to pick up momentum and stretched their run to five consecutive wins in all competitions this week. After recovering from a goal down to beat Espanyol in comfortable fashion at the Bernabeu, Carlo Ancelotti’s side took another three points with a 3-2 win over Alaves.

Kylian Mbappe was on target in both games to extend his record to seven goals in nine games for Los Blancos.

8. PSV Eindhoven (👎 Last week: 6)

PSV Eindhoven blitzed to the Eredivisie title last season and the Dutch champions look in ominous form again. Six straight wins have taken PSV back to the top of the table, with Malik Tillman on target twice in their 3-1 win at Fortuna Sittard last weekend.

Peter Bosz’s side are averaging 3.8 goals per game in the Eredivisie this season…

7. Liverpool (🆕)

Liverpool return to our Power Rankings table after righting the wrongs of their shock loss to Nottingham Forest earlier this month.

After winning at AC Milan in the Champions League, the Reds’ responded in the Premier League with a comfortable 3-0 win over Bournemouth. Arne Slot’s side then secured passage into the Carabao Cup fourth round after thrashing West Ham 5-1 at Anfield in midweek.

With an embarrassment of attacking riches finding form, Liverpool look well placed for a successful season.

6. Arsenal (👍 Last week: 7)

Arsenal move up in our table after two impressive results this week. The Gunners battled to a 2-2 draw at Manchester City despite spending the entire second half with 10 men, with only a last-gasp equaliser from John Stones denying the North Londoners three points at the Etihad.

Progress in the Carabao Cup was then confirmed after a 5-1 win over Bolton Wanderers, in a fixture that saw four academy players aged 18 or under start. Among them was 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri, who scored twice. Hale End is thriving right now.

5. Galatasaray (👍 Last week: 8)

In one of the spiciest fixtures in the European game, Galatasaray beat arch-rivals Fenerbahce to claim precious points in the Istanbul Derby.

The Turkish Süper Lig champions took control of the title race with a 3-1 win at Fenerbahce, with Dries Mertens and Gabriel Sara among the scorers. It’s six straight wins for Galatasaray in their defence of the Süper Lig, won with a record-breaking 102 points last season.

Okan Buruk’s team then kicked off their European venture with a 3-1 win over PAOK in Istanbul. Few will fancy that trip this season…

4. Manchester City (👎 Last week: 2)

Manchester City drop two places after a frustrating draw with Arsenal at the Etihad. Despite boasting a man advantage for the second half, the Citizens were unable to break down Mikel Arteta’s men to drop their first points of the Premier League campaign.

In midweek, Pep Guardiola’s team rotated team did enough to beat Watford and reach the Carabao Cup’s fourth round.

3. Sporting Lisbon (No change)

The Sporting show goes on. Ruben Amorim’s team have a perfect Primeira Liga record after extending their run to six consecutive wins.

Sporting eased to a 3-0 win over AVS at the Jose Alvalade Stadium with Viktor Gyokeres (Yes, him again) on target twice for the defending champions.

2. Bayern Munich (👍 Last week: 4)

Bayern Munich have found their goalscoring groove under Vincent Kompany with a remarkable return in recent games.

The Bavarians ran riot to record a 5-0 win at Werder Bremen at the weekend, extending their run to 20 goals scored in their last three games. Michael Olise scored twice to continue his superb start in Germany, which now reads five goals and assists in three league starts. The Frenchman has taken to the bigger stage with ease.

1. Barcelona (No change)

Barcelona remain at the summit of our Power Rankings table after back-to-back wins this week.

Hansi Flick’s men waltzed to a 5-1 success at Villarreal that saw Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha each score braces at El Madrigal. Lewandowski’s goal was then the difference against Getafe, to make it seven wins from seven for the Spaniards in La Liga.
