Another round of Champions League fixtures is done and itâs time to update our Power Rankings before Thursdayâs action take place. Here are our top 10 form teams in Europe.
How could we not include Galatasaray after they twice came from behind to secure a superb win at Old Trafford?
Big name signings Wilfried Zaha, Dries Mertens and Mauro Icardi were all crucial for the Turkish side, who have also won six in a row in the league and are just two points behind Fenerbahçe at the top of the table. Some run of form theyâre on.
That controversial defeat at Tottenham sees Liverpool slip one place, even if they were hard done by not only by the wrongly disallowed Luis DĂaz goal but also the Diogo Jota red card and then the late own goal that saw Tottenham take all three points.
Still, JĂŒrgen Klopp will be heartened by the fight shown by his team, underlining their strong start to the season despite a disappointing result.
Newcastle entered the September international break in some concerning form. Nobodyâs concerned now.
Since returning to action, theyâve won five and drawn one, theyâve beaten Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, theyâve won 8-0 against Sheffield United and theyâve conceded just once in their six games. The 4-1 win over PSG on Wednesday felt like a real statement: the Toon Army are here to stay.
A draw with RB Leipzig at the weekend saw Bayern relinquish top spot in the Bundesliga. They recovered well from a poor first half to rescue a point but Tuesdayâs performance against Copenhagen suggested not everything is fixed.
Thomas Tuchel has some work to do to get Bayern back to their best.
Along with Arsenal, Tottenham are the only team still unbeaten in the Premier League this season. Win on Saturday and they will go top of the league overnight.
Even though Saturdayâs win over Liverpool was controversial, credit where it is due to Postecoglou and his players.
City suffered a first Premier League defeat of the season as they laboured at Wolves on Saturday, making it two defeats in two without Rodri.
They were back to winning ways with the Spaniard in the team in Leipzig but he wonât be available against Arsenal this weekend and Cityâs lead at the top of the Premier League is down to just one point.
Now up to 10 games unbeaten and with eight wins from their last nine games, you canât argue with the results.
It doesnât quite feel like Barça have hit top form yet, with a lot of those wins fairly narrow â since back-to-back 5-0 wins, results read 3-2 (v Celta Vigo), 2-2 (v Mallorca), 1-0 (v Sevilla, courtesy of a Sergio Ramos own goal) and 1-0 (v Porto) â and Xavi faces a test with Robert Lewandowski now out injured.
In case you wondered how Inter would respond to setbacks, the answer is: really, really well.
Their first defeat of the season was followed by a 4-0 win at Salernitana, with Lautaro MartĂnez scoring all four from the bench. They didnât win their first Champions League group game but reacted to beat Benfica at San Siro on Tuesday thanks to Marcus Thuramâs winner. Deserved Serie A leaders, they appear to be in very good shape.
It has been a big week for Real Madrid, who won 3-0 at Girona to claim top spot from the surprise early leaders in LaLiga. Jude Bellingham shone in that one (of course) before doing the same again in the 3-2 win in Naples in the Champions League. Not many teams win there in Europe.
With arguably the worldâs most in-form player, Madrid look as formidable as ever.
Another week, another comfortable and entertaining win as Leverkusen beat Mainz 3-0 away from home to head to the top of the Bundesliga.
Xabi Alonsoâs side have scored 20 and conceded just six in six matches so far, winning five and drawing in Munich in the other. Everything is going very, very well indeed.
