The last weekend of club action was eventful to say the least and makes the latest international break all the more ill-timed.

However, it’s now time to update our list of the continent’s most in-form teams as we move into the winter period.

Sporting follow Spurs’ lead in falling off top spot in their league and out of the top 10 – as they say, it’s tough at the top!

10. Liverpool (🆕)

With their passage to the Europa League knockouts near-guaranteed already, a controversial 3-2 loss in Toulouse will not be held against Liverpool as they make their way into the top 10.

JĂŒrgen Klopp’s men geared up for a trip to Manchester City after the international break with a convincing 3-0 win home win over Brentford. It continued both the side and Mohamed Salah’s incredible record at Anfield, which you can read more about here.

The Reds now sit just one point off leaders City ahead of their Premier League summit meeting.

9. Juventus (No change)

Another week, another narrow victory for the Old Lady as they continue their resurgence, which we outlined previously here.

This time it was Cagliari who fell to Max Allegri’s side, with defenders Gleison Bremer and Daniele Rugani being the unlikely heroes in a 2-1 home win. Defence has been central to Juventus’ success this season with just seven goals conceded in 12 league outings.

Only two points behind leaders Inter, could this be the season that Juve climb back to the top of Italian football?

8. Manchester City (👎 Last week: 3)

While it might seem harsh to drop City five places, given their top spot in the Premier League and 100% Champions League record, something has to give and draws aren’t in Pep Guardiola’s standard playbook.

And certainly not the one we witnessed at Chelsea – the first 4-4 in the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager’s storied touchline career. It was chaos instead of the calm and control often associated with the modern-day City.

Erling Haaland had his usual weekend though, grabbing two more goals to take his tally to 17 in 16 games for the season so far.

7. Bayern Munich (👍 Last week: 9)

Haaland is still not the top scorer in Europe, however, as his former Premier League rival Harry Kane has taken his goalscoring to new heights since his move to the Bayern Munich and the Bundesliga.

Newly-promoted Heidenheim were the latest side to fall to Kane’s brilliance, as he got the first two goals for Bayern in a 4-2 win. It is now a frankly ridiculous 21 goals in 16 games for the champions since his summer transfer.

Robert Lewandowski’s Bundesliga season goals record is already a very reasonable aim, but Bayern are still somehow not top of the table.

6. Benfica (🆕)

An injury-time comeback win against your city rivals, who just so happened to be three points clear of you prior to the game? Yes, that is deserving of an immediate jump into sixth place.

Benfica were 1-0 down in the 94th minute at the EstĂĄdio da Luz and set to lose to 10-man Sporting but just four minutes later, they were celebrating a stunning 2-1 win and top spot in Liga Portugal after goals from JoĂŁo Neves and Casper Tengstedt.

Can anyone stop the Eagles from retaining their crown and claiming a record-extending 39th Portuguese league title?

5. Real Madrid (👍 Last week: 6)

No Jude Bellingham? No problem!

In the Englishman’s absence, a new talisman had to step up and luckily for Madrid, two did in the shape of VinĂcius JĂșnior and Rodrygo, who both got a brace in a dominant 5-1 against Valencia.

It was a much welcomed return to goalscoring form for Carlo Ancelotti’s main attackers and bodes well for the rest of the season.

4. PSV Eindhoven (👍 Last week: 8)

Article image:📈 Power Rankings: Lever-cruisin', My Girona, all change in Portugal!

There simply is no stopping PSV in the Eredivisie this season, is there?

A 4-0 home win against PEC Zwolle made it 12 from 12 for new manager Peter Bosz and equalled their start to the 2018/19 campaign (they still remain five off their own 1987/88 record). They also broke a Dutch league goals record in the process, which is detailed here.

With a seven point lead over champions Feyenoord, a 25th league title seems a good bet.

3. Girona (👍 Last week: 4)

It’s the underdog story that Spanish football has been missing for many years, with no one seemingly capable of upsetting the big three.

That has all changed so far this season as Girona continue to defy the odds and continue to lead LaLiga. A 2-1 win at Rayo Vallecano kept them two points clear of Real Madrid and keeps their dream alive.

If not a league title, what about Champions League football for next season? They currently sit 10 points clear of fifth place. A truly incredible season to date.

2. Inter (No change)

Article image:📈 Power Rankings: Lever-cruisin', My Girona, all change in Portugal!

Inter continue to set the pace in Serie A, with a 2-0 win at home against Frosinone keeping them two points clear and extending their winning league run to four games.

Federico Dimarco’s opener is already a strong contender for goal of the season. Did he mean his near-halfway line lob? Does it matter? Not particularly, and it just shows how full of goals Simone Inzaghi’s side is.

With the last two champions, Napoli and Milan, creaking, Inter have a great opportunity to reclaim the Scudetto this time around.

1. Bayer Leverkusen (No change)

Article image:📈 Power Rankings: Lever-cruisin', My Girona, all change in Portugal!

Top of their Europa League group, top of the Bundesliga and top of our rankings – not too shabby for Xabi!

After Bayern applied the pressure and climbed above them on Saturday, Leverkusen responded by dispatching Union Berlin with ease, running out 4-0 winners at the BayArena.

It continues a stunning unbeaten start to their campaign, with their only points “dropped” coming away to Bayern. Could Alonso guide the club derided as “Neverkusen” to a first ever German title?
