After an absorbing weekend of European club football and some midweek cup shocks, it’s time to update our Power Rankings.
Here are our top 10 in-form sides across Europe right now.
Much has been made of Ajax’s malaise, with the Netherlands’ most successful club currently bottom of the Eredivisie after a dismal start to the season.
Last weekend it was one of their big rivals, PSV, who piled on further misery with a 5-2 victory in which Hirving Lozano netted a hat-trick. The Eindhoven club have won all 10 of their league fixtures this season and now have a five-point lead at the top of the table.
Over in Portugal and it’s Sporting who remain top of the table following a 2-0 win over Boavista on Monday.
Rúben Amorim’s side are the Primeira Liga’s only unbeaten club now this season and though there’s a long way to go, they look a good bet to win back the title from rivals Benfica.
Are we looking at another Ligue 1 title tilt from Nice this season? Francesco Farioli’s side currently lead the way as the only unbeaten side in the French top flight this term.
Remarkably, they have scored just 11 league goals this season (compared to PSG’s 23) but conceded only four, and have now kept seven clean sheets in their last eight matches.
Girona continue to punch above their weight in LaLiga, with Friday’s win over Celta Vigo leaving them behind leaders Real Madrid only on goal difference.
Míchel’s men have still only lost one league game this season (against Real Madrid) and sidestepped a potential banana skin in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday courtesy of a 98th-minute winner against fourth tier San Roque de Lepe.
After a mini-slump before the last international break, English and European champions Manchester City are back on track.
Their comprehensive victory in Sunday’s Manchester derby leaves them two points off the top of the Premier League table and Pep Guardiola will be hoping his side can now really start putting a run together.
Since their disappointing Champions League defeat at Newcastle in early October, PSG have strung together four consecutive victories, the latest being a 3-2 win over Brest on Sunday thanks to Kylian Mbappé’s late winner.
Luis Enrique’s Paris project is beginning to take shape.
An eighth win of the season for Inter leaves them two points ahead of Juventus at the top of the Serie A table.
Much of the pre-match build-up to Sunday’s clash with Roma centred around Romelu Lukaku’s return to his former club, but it was Inter’s new hero Marcus Thuram who proved to be the match-winner with his fifth goal of the season.
Barcelona drew first blood in Saturday’s Clásico, but it was Real Madrid who had the last laugh with a 2-1 win on their rivals patch which leaves them top of LaLiga.
Jude Bellingham’s brace (which included a stunning late winner) cemented his status as Europe’s most in-form player this season, and the England midfielder looks set to lead Los Blancos to great things.
Spurs’ 2-1 win away at Crystal Palace on Friday night meant they remain unbeaten this season and top of the Premier League.
Son Heung-min and James Maddison continue to dovetail beautifully, and Ange Postecoglou’s football has been a breath of fresh air for the long-suffering Lilywhites fans.
They surely can’t keep this form up all season … or can they?
If proof were needed that Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen are the most entertaining team around at the moment, it came on Wednesday evening, when they put five past Sandhausen in the DFB-Pokal and became the first club in Europe’s top five leagues to surpass the 50 goal mark this term.
Sunday’s 2-1 win over Freiburg means they still lead the way in the Bundesliga too, and with Bayern Munich’s struggles, a title challenge really isn’t beyond Die Werkself if they keep this form up.
