📈 Power Rankings: Four new clubs and our leaders impress again

Another week, another dose of the Power Rankings …

10. Newcastle (🆕)

Four consecutive Premier League wins have catapulted Newcastle into the top half of the table.

They’ve kept three clean sheets in those victories and now sit on 11 league wins for the season; the Magpies haven’t recorded more than 12 wins in a top flight season since 2013/14 but that is surely in sight now?

9. Arsenal (👍 Last week: 10)

What a difference a few days can make in football. Arsenal looked down and out before last Wednesday’s visit to Stamford Bridge before winning there and then again against Manchester United just two-and-a-half days later.

Those two massive results have Mikel Arteta’s side back in the top four driving seat, but for how long?

8. Inter (👎 Last week: 7)

After four league wins in a row and a Coppa Italia semi-final success, Inter were dealt a huge blow on Wednesday.

A win was set to send them top of the league, above city rivals Milan, but they somehow lost 2-1 to Bologna despite dominating and taking an early lead. A night to forget for the nerazzurri.

Four wins in a row in the league, into the Coppa Italia final as well.

7. Milan (🆕)

On the surface, Milan have looked a bit inconsistent of late, struggling to build on their strong position in the title race and losing in the Coppa Italia semi-final.

Dig a little deeper and you see they’re 12 games unbeaten in Serie A. A late winner against Lazio at the weekend now has them as the frontrunners for the title. Can they stay the course?

6. Monaco (🆕)

Monaco have quietly won six Ligue 1 games on the bounce, scoring 15 and conceding just five during that spell.

The run, which started with a 3-0 win over PSG, has taken them from ninth to fourth in the table and Champions League football is now in sight.

5. RB Leipzig (👎 Last week: 4)

Leipzig’s fantastic 2022 hit a rare bump as they lost to Union Berlin at the weekend.

Still, they’re looking good for fourth in Germany nonetheless, are in a European semi-final and have a cup final to come. Things could be a lot worse.

4. Bayern Munich (🆕)

A win over Borussia Dortmund last weekend saw Bayern crowned Bundesliga champions for the tenth successive season. No team in Europe has as many as their 92 league goals this season, scored in just 31 matches, and they still boast by far the best defensive record in Germany as well.

There may have been disappointment in other competitions but make no mistake, Bayern remain as formidable as ever.

3. Real Madrid (👎 Last week: 2)

Talk about Jekyll and Hyde. Real Madrid had very little going for them at Manchester City on Tuesday yet still scored three to keep their Champions League dreams alive.

They’re also on the verge of the LaLiga title. Not bad, all things considered.

2. Manchester City (👍 Last week: 3)

Few teams could ever score four against Real Madrid but leave the game feeling they should have had more. That’s how good this Manchester City side is.

And we see it from them week in, week out. Unfortunately for them, we see the same from someone else as well …

1. Liverpool (No change)

Jürgen Klopp’s side are in superb form as their quadruple hopes remain alive.

Liverpool may not have the upper hand in the Premier League title race but consecutive 2-0 wins at Anfield this week kept them on Man City’s tail (and extend their unbeaten run in the league to 14 games) and then put a foot in the Champions League final.
