16. 🇺🇦 Ukraine (👎 Previously: 12)

Ukraine were impressive in their opening two games but really struggled against Austria and were the only third place team to squeeze through on three points.

15. 🇭🇷 Croatia (👍 Previously: 17)

An impressive win over Scotland was enough for Croatia to go through but they’ve only had one truly excellent half so far this tournament. It was enough to get out of the group stage but they’ll have to improve.

14. 🇨🇿 Czech Republic (👎 Previously: 4)

They didn’t lay a finger on England at Wembley with both sides already qualified and weren’t impressive against Croatia either. Will have to get better heading into the knockout rounds.

13. 🇦🇹 Austria (👍 Previously: 14)

Austria were in total control in their win over Ukraine, offering up their most impressive performance of the tournament so far.

12. 🇵🇹 Portugal (👍 Previously: 15)

A decisive draw against France was impressive after capitulation versus Germany. Portugal aren’t as strong defensively as in 2016 but they do look like a bigger threat going forward.

11. 🇨🇭 Switzerland (👍 Previously: 18)

Switzerland had to win and blew Turkey away in their final group game. Outplayed by Italy but the better side against Wales, they’re still a side to watch.

10. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Wales (👎 Previously: 7)

Lost to Italy but played with 10 men for over half an hour and were always in the game. No injuries, no suspensions, a winnable last 16 tie. Wales are at it again.

9. 🇸🇪 Sweden (👎 Previously: 6)

Sweden just keep getting the results they need without ever looking that convincing. In terms of performance, there’s a lot to be desired.

8. 🇩🇪 Germany (👍 Previously: 9)

What to make of Germany? Fine but a bit underwhelming in their opener, superb against Portugal, then really poor without Thomas Müller against Hungary. But they managed to get through, just, and you have to think there’s more to come.

7. 🇩🇰 Denmark (👍 Previously: 22)

Finally got the result they deserved. After playing well and unfortunately losing their first two, they tore Russia apart to qualify. Only Italy have taken more shots at the tournament so far.

6. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England (👍 Previously: 8)

We’re still unsure what to make of England’s chances. On the one hand, they’ve only two goals. On the other, they haven’t conceded. Germany will be their biggest test yet.

5. 🇪🇸 Spain (👍 Previously: 16)

Spain FINALLY had some luck in front of goal. After doing everything right except finishing in their first two matches, they got the result they deserved against Slovakia. Don’t make the mistake of writing them off.

4. 🇫🇷 France (👍 Previously: 5)

Back-to-back draws are a surprise but France were the better side in both games. The world champions need a bit more creativity, an area that sees them relying heavily on Paul Pogba so far, but are still one of the big favourites.

3. 🇧🇪 Belgium (👎 Previously: 2)

With two comfortable wins and one coming from behind, Belgium had a pretty ideal group stage. There’s not as much hype around them as there was a few years ago but Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku are two of the best players at the tournament.

2. 🇳🇱 Netherlands (👍 Previously: 3)

The tournament’s top scorers with eight goals, they have the firepower to take on anyone, they have it in depth, and now they find themselves on the friendlier looking side of the draw.

1. 🇮🇹 Italy (No change)

Impressive in every match, Italy taking all three points was never in danger in any of their group games. Roberto Mancini has them winning, playing well, and playing good football.
