📈 Power Rankings: Barcelona finally arrive and Liverpool on the rise

Article image:📈 Power Rankings: Barcelona finally arrive and Liverpool on the rise

Thanks to the international break it’s a while since we did one of these. Let’s crack out the form book.

10. Barcelona (🆕)

Welcome at last! Barcelona have looked better since Xavi took over but even then we didn’t think they were ready to dominate a strong side like they did against AtlĂ©tico Madrid at the weekend.

Surprisingly now unbeaten in seven in the league, the Camp Nou club have won three of their last four in LaLiga and are up to fourth in the table.

9. Nice (👍 Last time: 10)

Nice lost to Clermont last time out in Ligue 1 but had won seven in a row before that in all competitions and have knocked PSG out of the cup.

Christophe Galtier is at it again after winning the title with Lille last season.

8. Chelsea (No change)

Chelsea are hard to measure. They beat Tottenham again, they scrape past Plymouth, they barely beat Al-Hilal.

The results all look fine but the performances leave question marks.

7. Juventus (👎 Last time: 4)

A draw with Milan was followed up with a win over Verona, this slide feels a bit harsh against Juventus.

Still, even with new boys Duơan Vlahović and Denis Zakaria hitting the ground running, there’s something not so convincing about them so far this season and their recent good run hasn’t erased all of those doubts.

6. Porto (No change)

There really is nothing new to say about Porto, who remain unbeaten in Portugal and have won 16 on the spin in the league alone.

Their Europa League meetings with Lazio should tell us more and they’ll be trickier now Luis Díaz has joined Liverpool.

5. Real Madrid (👎 Last time: 2)

Stuttering in the league and out of the Copa del Rey, Real Madrid are lucky they’ve built up such a commanding lead in LaLiga as they struggle for form.

4. Inter (👎 Last time: 3)

Inter may finally be stuttering. A derby defeat to Milan at the weekend was followed by a Coppa Italia win over Roma in midweek.

The double is still on but the title race is well and truly alive again.

3. Liverpool (👍 Last time: 7)

Everyone worried about Liverpool during AFCON. Why? They’ve beaten Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Cardiff across three competitions since we last left them.

A Premier League title race might be too much to ask but, with Luis Díaz added and Mo Salah and Sadio Mané both back, never say never.

2. Bayern Munich (👍 Last time: 5)

That looks like another Bundesliga title — a tenth in a row — wrapped up.

Bayern are now nine points clear after a commanding win against Hertha and a strong showing in the 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig. They’ve netted a simply insane 68 goals in 21 league games so far this season.

1. Manchester City (No change)

A stumble against Southampton preceded the international break but City are still miles clear of the pack, opening up a 12-point gap at the top of the Premier League.

Even if Liverpool reduce that to six with their games in hand, City don’t look likely to be caught.
