10. Liverpool (👎 Last week: 8)

Last week’s midweek game was cancelled and it was hard to take anything away from what was largely a Liverpool youth team coming from behind to beat Shrewsbury at Anfield at the weekend.

That was just Liverpool’s first win in five games that didn’t involve a penalty shootout. So here we are, probably a bit lucky to even feature.

9. FC Porto (👍 Last week: 10)

Another week, another win. That’s now 12 in a row in the league. But this one was the biggest of the lot, because Sporting lost for the first time this season, allowing Porto to establish a three-point gap at the top of the table.

Francisco Conçeicao, son of manager Sérgio, was subbed on to score an 89th minute winner against Estoril. What dreams are made of.

8. Milan (🆕)

A 3-1 win against Roma, a 3-0 win against Venezia. A week of work well done for Milan.

Keeping up with Inter in the title race is going to be no simple feat but Milan’s start to 2022 suggests they can do just that and make a fight of things until May.

7. Sevilla (No change)

Three games, three clean sheets, three wins. A smooth start to 2022 for Sevilla, who remain Real Madrid’s biggest challengers for the LaLiga title.

It’s now six in the league without defeat for Julen Lopetegui’s men.

6. Bayern Munich (👎 Last week: 2)

Well, not the return to action Bayern were hoping for. A ravaged squad meant Bayern didn’t have much depth last Friday but they did still have a very strong first XI.

They couldn’t make the most of that, though, and lost 2-1 to bogey side Borussia Mönchengladbach, who they’ve now failed to beat in all three meetings this season, to possibly re-open the Bundesliga title race.

5. Juventus (No change)

A mixed week for the Turin side, who are looking to reassert their position at the top of Italian football. Last season was a big disappointment, the start to this season was similar, but things are turning back Massimiliano Allegri’s way at last.

After a superb comeback win against Roma, Juve fought tooth and nail with Inter in the Supercoppa only to lose at the death on Wednesday. They aren’t the formidable force they were but they seem to be slowly getting there.

4. Real Madrid (👍 Last week: 6)

Still top of LaLiga and now Supercopa finalists, Real Madrid are over their brief New Year blip (of just one defeat) and back to winning ways both in the league and in the first ClĂĄsico of the season.

There’s not much more to add when things are going oh so smoothly.

3. Chelsea (No change)

Chelsea remain an enigma. A team that barely concedes, a team that scores plenty, yet a team that still sometimes struggles when they shouldn’t. Well, not in the last week.

A big FA Cup win over Chesterfield was sandwiched between League Cup wins over Tottenham to book another trip to Wembley. Three finals in a row for Thomas Tuchel isn’t bad going.

2. Inter (👍 Last week: 4)

A win in Serie A over Lazio, an extra-time win over Juventus in the Supercoppa. Inter look as formidable in 2022 as they did in 2021.

That’s nine domestic wins in a row. Catch them if you can.

1. Manchester City (No change)

Now 11 Premier League wins in a row and safely through in the FA Cup despite injuries and a coronavirus outbreak.

Easy does it, City remain the team to beat.
