Burnley could make Charlie Taylor available for a move away from Turf Moor this summer amid interest from elsewhere, according to a Patreon report from Alan Nixon.

The 28-year-old has started all three of the Clarets’ league games this season, starting in central defence for Vincent Kompany’s side with Ian Maatsen arriving this summer as a left-back option.

The Dutchman’s arrival looks set to push him into a more central position for the long term – but they already have the likes of CJ Egan-Riley, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Luke McNally at their disposal following their decision to make the switch to Lancashire this summer.

With this, they could be set to make Taylor available and there is no shortage of interest in his signature, with Leeds United reported to be an admirer of the experienced defender by journalist Nixon.

West Ham United have also recently been linked with a move for the left-sided player, though it remains to be seen whether they step up their pursuit of the Englishman following Maxwel Cornet’s arrival.

Cornet is just one of several key players that have departed Turf Moor this summer, with Nick Pope, Nathan Collins and Dwight McNeil also leaving the club. And in a further revelation by Nixon, Matt Lowton and Kevin Long will be allowed to move on as well.

The Verdict:

Although Kompany is keen to put his stamp on his first-team squad, Taylor could be a useful player to keep in and around the first-team squad and this is why they should be open to keeping him beyond the summer.

He has two years left on his contract too, so it’s not as if they are in desperate need of selling him to avoid potentially losing him for free.

This may be their best window to move him on – but with other departures providing them with plenty of money to spend – cashing in on him isn’t a necessity and it may even become back to haunt them at some point.

They need a stable figure who can help a young squad and with the likes of Harwood-Bellis and Egan-Riley still being reasonably young figures at this stage, someone off the field like Taylor with his wealth of experience could be useful.

But if he doesn’t fit into Kompany’s plans seamlessly, then you can understand why they would be willing to sell him because they could generate a decent amount of money for his services considering his contract situation.
