The postponed Merseyside derby clash between Everton and Liverpool - set to be the last played at Goodison Park - could take place in early February, a new report has revealed.

Everton were due to welcome their neighbourhood rivals across Stanley Park last Saturday, only for Storm Darragh to force the game to be postponed over safety concerns.

The Mirror report that both clubs are now in talks with the Premier League over rearranging the game, as well as with police and broadcasters, with a potential date of February 11 pencilled in.

That's the earliest midweek date available because of an already hectic fixture calendar that sees Liverpool in Premier League, Carabao Cup, Champions League and FA Cup action every few days for the next two months.

The postponement of the fixture hasn't cost Liverpool their place at the top of the Premier League table, with Arne Slot's side still four points clear of surprise package Chelsea and six ahead of Arsenal.

The Reds have won 11 of their 14 games to date, fuelling talk that Slot could lead the club to a second Premier League title in four years. Indeed, many believe Liverpool are now favourites after Manchester City's dismal run of form - with four defeats in a row leaving the champions eight points off the pace having played a game more than Liverpool.

Everton, meanwhile, are five points clear of the relegation zone after a recent morale boosting 4-0 win over Wolves. Sean Dyche's remit remains keeping the Toffees in the top flight as they gear up to move to a brand new 53,000-capacity stadium situated on the Bramley-Moore Dock in Vauxhall, Liverpool.
