Postecoglou tells Spurs players to ‘go somewhere else’ if they cannot embrace the challenge | OneFootball

Ange Postecoglou has fired a warning to his Tottenham players, telling them to move on if they do not want to embrace the challenge his team is currently facing.

Spurs are winless in five games in all competitions and sit 11th in the Premier League table going into Sunday’s game against Southampton, and have also been decimated by injuries.

After his side’s latest result, a Europa League draw with Rangers, Postecoglou labelled Timo Werner’s performance as “unacceptable” and said he did not meet the level required.

Postecoglou insisted the comments were not “criticism” but an “assessment” and asked about the impact of his comments, the Spurs boss said he is not worried about “bruising egos”.

“I’ve got no time for that sort of stuff anymore,” he said.

“We’re in a fight here. Collectively, we’re in a fight. I’m not going to go around worrying about people’s bruised egos.

“This football club, we want to achieve things. We want to be successful.

“We’re down to the bare bones of players and if there’s somebody in that dressing room whose fit, able to contribute, but feels like he needs something extra in this moment, he’s probably not the right type.

“I need guys who, and we had some last night, understand the situation we’re in.

“We’ve got 15 fit players and in some positions we’ve only got two players so I’m not going to go around trying to get extra out of people. If they don’t give extra right now, it kind of gives me an indication of where we’re at.”

Postecoglou also referenced comments made by defender Cristian Romero, in which he criticised the club’s board by saying: “Something is going wrong, hopefully, they [the board] realise it.”

Asked if the current situation is indicative of Tottenham’s recent history, Postecoglou responded: “I’m sick of that, and that’s an excuse for me.

“That’s why, even with Cristian Romero’s comments, I just think that’s an excuse.

“At the moment, I’m here. I take responsibility. These players, we’re here.

“If we think some mythical thing exists in this club that prevents success, then change it. What’s the point otherwise? Don’t come here.

“I just don’t buy into that. At the moment, like I said, we’re in a difficult situation because of where we are squad wise. If you want excuses, there’s a million of them. There’s a million excuses as to why we can’t be successful but if that’s what your clutch is, particularly in tough moments, then what’s the point? Just move on then, go somewhere else.”
