Ange Postecoglou has bemoaned the ‘unusual individual errors’ from his Tottenham Hotspur team after the club’s calamitous loss at Wolves.
Spurs lost for the 17th time in the Premier League after conceding four avoidable goals against in-form Wolves at Molineux. In a game littered with defensive errors, Postecoglou’s side fell behind when goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario punched a free-kick out to Rayan Ait-Nouri, who volleyed the ball back past the Italian.
Spurs conceded another poor goal before half-time. Vicario fumbled a ball into the box, pushing it against Djed Spence for an own goal.
Mathys Tel got Spurs back into the game but their two-goal deficit was restored just five minutes later. Cristian Romero was robbed of possession by Ait-Nouri, who squared for Jorgen Strand Larsen to tap home.
Richarlison got Spurs back into the game again, but again, the visitors imploded. Lucas Bergvall was dispossessed by Matheus Cunha who through to score the fourth for Wolves.
“Obviously a disappointing result,” Postecoglou reflected in his post-match press conference.
“Funny game because for the most part I thought our football was decent considering all the changes we’ve made. For the most part we controlled large parts of it, were a threat going forward and didn’t give them too much. But then obviously we conceded some pretty poor goals and that made it awfully difficult to get an outcome today.
“Obviously we made some individual errors today which was a bit unusual for us, fair to say. They all happened in one game and unfortunately we got punished from it.
Asked whether he was surprised to see key players such as Romero make big mistakes, Postecoglou added: “Yeah but it’s not like they’re doing it on purpose. Those two in particular (Romero and Vicario) are pretty reliable in those kind of situations but today it was a collection of events which were unusual which makes it really difficult to get an outcome from the game.”
