Ange Postecoglou has defended Guglielmo Vicario's reaction after Tottenham's defeat to AZ Alkmaar.
The Lilywhites' goalkeeper was involved in a tense exchange with travelling fans after Thursday's Europa League last-16 first leg defeat in the Netherlands.
Vicario had raised his arms to supporters at the final whistle, which drew an angry reaction which was mirrored by the player before he left the pitch in Alkmaar.
But Postecoglou believes that the Italy international's outburst was well intentioned.
"Vic is very, very passionate about this football club and what we are trying to do here," said the Spurs manager.
"He wants everyone on board with that. If people think there's a bad bone in his body then they don't know him like I do.
"He wants what is best because he cares."
Postecoglou also spoke frankly about where his side need to improve as they host a high-flying Bournemouth at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
He added: "It's about consistency and performance, not about raising our worst level.
"Inconsistency has come from not having a consistent lineup. Last night was a reflection of where we are.
"There are different ways of tackling those challenges and that at the bare minimum we compete and get the base line performances up."
Spurs sit nine points off the Premier League's top half ahead of the Cherries' visit.
