Bayern Munich have reportedly committed a blunder during their contract negotiations with the agent of Alphonso Davies, which could provide a new lease on life for Manchester United.
The 24-year-old is considered among the best left-backs in the world, so his expiring contract has alarmed a host of European giants, with the likes of Real Madrid and the Red Devils hoping to poach his services for free in the summer.
Nevertheless, it has been reported that Bayern have finally managed to make a breakthrough in the negotiations with the player’s agent, suggesting that the two parties could soon pen a new contract.
However, Bundesliga insider Christian Falk believes that Davies’ contract extension is far from a done deal at this point.
In his latest column for The Daily Briefing, the German journalist tells how Bayern Munich made a misstep in the negotiations, which irked the player’s agent Nick Huoseh.
Davies’ representative was reportedly irritated as Max Eberl, the head of sport at Bayern, didn’t take part in the meeting. Therefore, the negotiations have been put on hold at the moment.

However, Bayern remain confident in their ability to strike an agreement with the Canada international, especially since the latter would like to stay in Bavaria. The negotiations could thus resume in January.
That being said, Davies would be free to hold talks with other clubs and sign a pre-contract by the start of the new year. And with Real Madrid’s interest fading, this could be the opening Man United need to resurrect their chances of landing their transfer target, explains Falk.
The Red Devils are in dire need of a new left-back, with Luke Shaw continuously struggling with injuries, and Davies is arguably one of the best they could find.
