Stefan Posch is to leave Bundesliga football club TSG Hoffenheim and join Bologna. The Italian Serie A club have exercised their purchase option for the 26-year-old Austrian, who had already been on loan to Bologna since September 2022. The defender's contract with TSG was set to run until 30 June 2024.
"Stefan exemplified the Hoffenheim way and experienced a remarkable developmental path at TSG from academy talent to a seasoned Bundesliga defender and senior international for Austria," said Alexander Rosen, director of football at TSG. "After a total of eight years with us, Poschi wanted to take on a new challenge last summer. At Bologna, he impressed with strong performances as a goal-scoring right-back over the past season, meaning those in charge at the club have now also decided to take up the economically attractive option to buy the player. We wish Poschi all the best for his future in Serie A."
"I matured into a Bundesliga player at TSG Hoffenheim and was even able to play in European competition with the club in the Champions League and Europa League," says Stefan Posch. "Looking back, I had a great and successful time in the Kraichgau. That's why I will always be grateful to the club and wish the club and its fans all the best for the future."
Posch transferred from Austrian club Admira Wacker to TSG's youth training centre in August 2015 at the age of 18. In the 2015/2016 season, he finished as a runner-up in the German Championship as part of the Hoffenheim U19 team. He was promoted to TSG's Regionalliga team for the 2016/2017 season and became a fixed member of the senior squad in February 2017. On 28 September 2017, the Austrian made his debut and first appearance in the starting XI for TSG Hoffenheim in a 2-1 Europa League defeat away to Ludogorets. On 14 October 2017, he made his first Bundesliga appearance in a 2-2 draw against FC Augsburg. Posch made a total of 109 appearances for TSG in the Bundesliga, eight in the DFB-Pokal, two in the Champions League and seven in the Europa League. He played 38 games for TSG's Regionalliga team and wore the Hoffenheim jersey 22 times for the club's U19 team.
