Paris Saint-Germain emerged victorious from Sunday’s Ligue 1 Classique encounter with Marseille despite playing over half of the game with 10-men.

Kylian Mbappé didn’t look happy to be substituted for PSG just after the hour mark, but Luis Enrique’s side went on to win without him, with Portuguese duo Vitinha and Gonçalo Ramos both scoring to win the game.

Red card: Beraldo (PSG) 39′

The league leaders travelled to the Stade Vélodrome looking to move 12-points clear at the top of the table, and the first half was an even affair, with both sides having chances.

Lucas Beraldo was shown a yellow card for dragging down OM striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after 15 minutes, and that yellow became a red later in the second half for another foul by the PSG defender on the same player.

VAR intervened to send Beraldo for an early bath after just 39 minutes for a shove on Aubameyang, leaving the hosts with a man advantage five minutes before half-time.

Nevertheless, Luis Enrique’s side took the lead after the break with a brilliant goal that was started and finished by Vitinha, as the Portuguese burst from midfield and played a one-two with Ousmane Dembélé before finishing coolly.

OM thought they’d equalised minutes later, when Jordan Veretout lashed past Gianluigi Donnarumma, but the goal was ruled out for offside against Luis Henrique.

Mbappé was then substituted after just 63 minutes for the visitors, and he went straight down the tunnel, with Marco Asensio brought on to replace him in what appeared to be a tactical switch.

The hosts went in search of an equaliser but struggled to force openings, and they were correctly denied a penalty when PSG goalkeeper Donnarumma collided with Samuel Gigot.

Moments later PSG broke downfield and scored their second, with Asensio slipping Gonçalo Ramos through to finish well, much to the distaste of the Marseille supporters.

Marseille’s wait for a first league win over PSG since 2020 goes on, and Jean-Louis Gasset’s side’s hopes of European football next season are fading fast.
