Some interesting indiscretions have emerged regarding the future of Rafael Leao as one journalist has claimed that she expects him to renew with AC Milan.

Given the break from Serie A action and the fact that the World Cup is in full flow ahead of the January transfer window, the issue of Leao’s contract negotiations continues to take up spaces in the newspaper columns.

MilanNews spoke to Claudia Garcia, a Portuguese journalist who knows Italian football very well and was actually the first to report that Leao would be joining Milan from Lille. She is also a commentator on Rai1 and RSI Sport, and she began by assessing how much he is worth in the current market.

“Giving numbers is complicated. He has already been decisive in winning the Scudetto at Milan, but if Joao Feliix cost 120 million, he too could cost this amount,” Garcia said.

There are a number of issues that must be resolved if Leao is to renew from the power of attorney (a battle between a family lawyer and his agent Jorge Mendes) to the Sporting CP fine and of course his salary demands. Despite this, Garcia has an optimistic outlook.

“I think in the end Rafa Leao will renew with Milan. From the information I have, they’re going in this direction. It’s true that there’s a fine to pay, but they’ll find a solution,” he said.

“It still costs a lot to replace a player like that, but Milan have already waited for Leao and he is very happy with Milan, the fans and Italy. Rafa exploded last season, so it would be early for a transfer. Maybe we can renew and think about it in the future.”
