Portugal came from behind to defeat a very unlucky Czech Republic 2-1, substitute Francisco Conceição making himself a national hero with the winner two minutes into added time.

Roberto Martinez's side dominated the ball from the start and had the first half-chance inside 10 minutes when Rafael Leão whipped a ball into the box in the direction of Cristiano Ronaldo. It was just behind him though, and ended up hitting off the captain's shoulder and wide.

Czech Republic struggled to make any inroads but were quite comfortable defending deep with numbers as Portugal played in front of them with little joy to start with.

Leão was inches away from giving his side the lead in the 25th minute. The Czechs gave away the ball and Portugal countered, Bernardo Silva playing the ball forward towards Bruno Fernandes, whose low cross just evaded the Milan winger.

Fernandes was again the architect for another great chance, this time threading a brilliant ball into Ronaldo, who was denied almost instantly by keeper Jindřich Staněk.

The Czechs' first true foray forward nearly saw them take the lead. Vladimir Coufal got the ball on the right and whipped a dangeroub ball into the box, which Rúben Dias did very well to get to before Patrick Schick.

Ronaldo had another close range shot saved by Staněk just before the half time whistle.

The second half started in similar fashion with Portugal dominating the ball but the Czechs remained disciplined and resolute, and eventually took their chance when it came in the 62nd minute.

The ball was played back to substitute Lukáš Provod on the edge of the box and he curled home a brilliant strike that beat Diogo Costa all ends up.

Portugal equalised eight minutes later but it came with a huge amount of luck. Bernardo Silva whipped a ball into the box which Nuno Mendes headed across the box. Staněk should have claimed the ball but instead parried it against Robin Hranac, resulting in an own goal.

Both sides pressed for a late winner with Czech skipper Tomáš Souček coming the closest.

Portugal thought they had stolen a winner with two minutes to go when Diogo Jota headed home after Ronaldo's own headed effort hit the post. However, Ronaldo was ruled to be just offside when the ball was floated in.

They got their winner a minute into added time, substitutes Pedro Neto and Francisco Conceição combining for the latter to smash home from close range.

Real Madrid youngster gives Türkiye win over spirited Georgia

Scorers: Müldür 25' Güler 65' Aktürkoğlu 90+7; Mikautadze 32'

Plucky Georgia were unlucky to lose 3-1 in their first ever European Championship match in what was a thrilling encounter with Türkiye.

Türkiye started brightly, and went close from a corner early on as Hakan Çalhanoğlu swung in a corner that was met by the head of Kaan Ayhan, but the Galatasaray man just couldn't keep it down.

And just before the ten-minute mark, Ayhan went even closer, slamming a shot from outside the box against the post.

The stadium erupted when Mert Müldür received the ball on the outside of the box and smashed a delightful finish right through his laces and into the back of the net.

Crazy scenes followed when Vincenzo Montella's side had the ball in the net for a second time in as many minutes, but the goal was disallowed for the most margianal of offsides.

Then Georgia turned the tables when Georges Mikautadze delivered a cheeky finish to give his side their first ever goal in a European Championship match.

Into the second half and 19-year-old Arda Güler let fly with a sensational curling strike to put Türkiye in front.

The madness of this game continued as Georgia's Solomon Kvirkvelia crashed a shot against the bar under pressure from defenders.

Georgia continued to hustle for the equaliser, and almost scored twice in the dying seconds, hitting the post in the final minute.

Yet in pushing their entire team up for the corner that followed, Türkiye substitute Muhammed Kerem Aktürkoğlu was able to break and run the length of the pitch to score in an empty net.

Tomorrow sees host nation Germany back in action as they take on Hungary, while Scotland will be hoping that they can better their 5-1 mauling in the opening match when they face Switzerland. Croatia also take on Albania with both sides looking to get off the mark.
