Portugal coach: “We want to bring joy to the Portuguese people.”

Speaking to Portuguese television following his Portugal team’s 2-0 win over Uruguay in Group H, coach Fernando Santos expressed his relief at making the last 16 and that he wants to “bring joy” to his nation. Santos said:

“It was a deserved victory, the team totally fulfilled what I asked them to do… We’re through, now it’s time to keep working to improve what can be improved on. What is important is that we have a solid team, that shows very strong unity – that’s how positive things are achieved. We want to bring joy to the Portuguese people.”
