Portsmouth have completed the signing of former Blackburn Rovers defender Hannah Coan on a two-year deal.

Pompey announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Coan joins Portsmouth after leaving former club Blackburn Rovers upon the expiry of her contract at the end of June. The 23-year-old is experienced at Barclays Women’s Championship level after spending the last four seasons playing her football in the second tier.

The defender started out at Everton before enjoying a short loan spell at Sheffield United. Coan joined Blackburn Rovers in 2021 and the player has gone on to make 70 appearances for the Lancashire club in the Barclays Women’s Championship.

After adding Coan to his squad, Portsmouth boss Jay Sadler said “I’m delighted to bring Hannah down to Portsmouth. She’s an imposing figure and had an excellent season helping Blackburn to their highest league finish.

“We have been very keen to add competition defensively and Hannah fits the profile we have been looking for. She is naturally left-footed, which provides further balance to our backline.

“She has a wealth of experience at this level, having played consistently over the past three seasons, making her a great addition to the group.”

Coan becomes Portsmouth’s second signing of the summer transfer window.
