Portsmouth midfielder Joe Morrell has told The News that both he and his teammates know that any players which the club brings in this month will be quality.

The former Luton Town man made the comments after Pompey recently completed the loan signing of Blackburn Rovers defender Hayden Carter, in what was their first bit of January transfer business.

This leaves the signing of a new striker as the next point of call on Danny Cowley’s wish list as he seeks to improve his side’s attacking options moving forwards.

Now Morrell has had his say on what the squad has come to expect with regards to the new arrivals that come through the door at Fratton Park, as he stated the following recently:

“We know that any player coming into the building is going to be thoroughly researched and be of a good quality and a good character, which is as important as each other.”

Morrell was one of many summer signings that Cowley made on the South Coast this season and has since gone on to make 21 appearances at Fratton Park.

The midfielder has since gone on record to state that he would recommend the move to any player he came across.

The good thing about Pompey and Cowley specifically is that they know exactly what calibre of player they can attract to the club.

Many will argue that they are on of many big fishes in the small pond which is Sky Bet League One but they certainly  need to show some signs of improvement if they are to get promoted this season.

With Ellis Harrison and Gassan Ahadme having now departed the club, the need for a new striker is now even greater than before.

Whether it will be a loan or permanent signing if anyone’s guess but at the same time they need to move quickly as we head towards the back end of the window.
