Portsmouth defender Scarlett Williams has signed a one-year professional deal with the club.

Pompey announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.

Williams joined Portsmouth towards the end of the 2023/2024 season after leaving the club’s FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division rivals Billericay Town. The youngster was able to play a part in Pompey’s title success, although she is very much one for the longer term.

Portsmouth manager Jay Sadler has been impressed with what he has seen from Williams in a short space of time and the club have today agreed professional terms with the player for the upcoming season.

After retaining Williams’ services, Pompey boss Sadler said “Scarlett is a fantastic person and a great young footballer. She’s technically very gifted and understands already what we want to do.

“I feel she began to show what she’s made of and hopefully, we can build on that. We have a long pre-season ahead, where we can continue that growth together.”

Williams is the tenth player to have agreed professional terms with Portsmouth this summer. She has joined teammates Hannah Haughton, Riva Casley, Georgie Freeland, Jazz Younger, Sophie Quirk, Emily Pitman, Annie Rolf, Ella Humphrey and Izzy Collins in going full-time with Pompey ahead of the 2024/2025 Barclays Women’s Championship campaign.
