Portsmouth have completed the signing of defender Annie Wilding on a free transfer.

Pompey announced news of the deal via a post on their official club website this evening.

The 21-year-old defender joins Portsmouth off the back of a spell with their Barclays WSL2 rivals Sheffield United. Wilding spent last season with The Blades, gaining experience of playing regular first team football.

The youngster previously came through the youth system at Barclays Women’s Super League club Everton before making a handful of appearances for the senior side.

After adding Wilding to his squad, Portsmouth boss Jay Sadler said “We’ve been keen to add competition in defensive areas and Annie fits the profile we’ve been looking for, so we’re really happy to welcome her.

“She’s calm in possession and possesses strong physical attributes. She’s had a good schooling at Everton, and gained valuable senior experience in the league last season.

“From recent conversations, she is a really good character with a maturity beyond her years. We’re confident she’ll be a great addition to the group.”

Wilding is Portsmouth’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window. The club have added plenty of Barclays WSL2 experience to their ranks ahead of the new season.
