The Olympique de Marseille president Pablo Longoria met with FC Porto’s manager Sérgio Conceiçao over the prospect of becoming the next head coach of Les Phocéens.
According to the journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Longoria scheduled a trip following Marseille’s defeat away to Stade de Reims. A loss that has seen the club’s hopes of playing in Europe all but dissipate ahead of the final game of the season.
There is a sense that Marseille want to strike while the iron is hot as they want to avoid the mistake they believe they made last season by appointing Marcelino without providing him with a suitable preseason.
Despite the reports that have heavily linked Olympique de Marseille with Paulo Fonseca, the club have kept their options open over filling their impending vacancy. Conceiçao would represent an ambitious and exciting appointment by Longoria, but the club will have to wait and see what the outcome of their meeting was, as there is no guarantee that they have managed to convince the Porto-man of their project.
