There has been a whole load of VAR chaos in the Champions League game between Porto and Bayer Leverkusen tonight.
Callum Hudson-Odoi had a 15th minute goal ruled out for an alleged foul in the build-up which appeared harsh on replays but that doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface.
Mehdi Taremi thought he had given Porto the lead just before half-time after finishing off a fine counter-attack.
However, the play was called back after referee Anthony Taylor was called to the pitchside monitor to take a look at an incident.
That incident turned out to be a handball by a Porto player in the opposite area in the build-up to the goal, which meant Taremi’s goal was ruled out and instead there would be a Leverkusen penalty.
Abuse and jeers rang from the stands as Patrik Schick stepped up to take the spot-kick but in the end there was no real winner as Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa denied the Czech striker from 12 yards.
Utter chaos, which didn’t even end in a goal.
No one can ever accuse of VAR lacking in entertainment.
