That's according to a report from Sky Sports Transfer Centre (29/08, 09:07), who say the Portuguese giants are the latest club keen to sign the Bosnia and Herzegovina international.

Ahmedhodzic joined the Blades from Malmo back in the summer of 2022, and helped them win promotion to the Premier League during his debut campaign with the club.

However, he was unable to prevent them suffering an immediate relegation back to the Championship last season.

Since then, there has been plenty of speculation around the future of Ahmedhodzic, and with less than two days to go until the window closes, another new potential destination may have emerged.

Porto in race for Sheffield United centre-back

There have already been several Premier League clubs credited with an interest in the Sheffield United defender this summer.

Wolves and Ipswich Town are among those to have been linked with a move for Ahmedhodzic, although no deal has so far materialised.

Now, this latest update has also claimed that Porto have joined the race to sign the centre-back, as time runs down until the transfer deadline.

Ahmedhodzic returned to the Sheffield United side for their League Cup defeat to Barnsley on Tuesday, having missed the weekend's Championship clash with Norwich City through illness.

As things stand, there are still two years remaining on his contract with the Blades, securing his future at the club until the end of the 2025/26 season.

That will give Chris Wilder's side some scope to negotiate any bids that come in for him before the window closes on Friday night.

Sheffield United have started this season with a win and two draws from their three league games.

As a result, they 11th in the early standings with three points, having been deducted two prior to the start of the season for defaulting on payments to other clubs.

They are next in action on Sunday afternoon, when they host second place Watford at Bramall Lane.

For their part, Porto finished last season third in the Portuguese top-flight, meaning they are set to play in the Europa League this season.

Currently, Vitor Bruno's side sit second in the Primeria Liga, as one of three teams to have won all three league games they have played in the current campaign.

Blades will want to keep Anel Ahmedhodzic

The fact that interest continues to emerge around Ahmedhodzic will no doubt be a concern for those of a Sheffield United.

The centre-back has been one of their first choices since he joined the club, and the level of interest he has attracted further shows how good he is.

Not only would he be an asset to lose, but at this stage of the window, there would not be a lot of time in which to replace him.

Porto meanwhile, do need central defensive reinforcements this summer after Pepe's retirement and Fabio Cardoso's loan move to Al-Ain.

It will therefore be interesting to see how hard they push for Ahmedhodzic, who could be tempted to compete for trophies and in European football with the Portuguese giants.
