Santiago Moreno has signed a new contract with Portland Timbers, keeping him at the club through the 2026 MLS season with an option for 2027.

Moreno has become a mainstay in the Timbers XI upon joining in the summer of 2021, staking his claim as one of the top up-and-coming young forwards in the league. Moreno's current deal was set to expire following the conclusion of the 2025 season.

The 23-year-old bagged three goals and six assists in 29 starts last term, and has registered 11 goals and 15 assists overall in 88 appearances across all competitions for Portland.

"Santi has become an influential component of our attack since joining Portland as a young player a few years ago. He has taken necessary steps in his maturation on and off the field, which has been vital for his growth," Timbers general manager Ned Grabavoy said in a release.

"Santi has the capability to continue to raise his level, and we're excited to see him become an even more significant contributor with our group moving forward."

With Moreno under contract for the foreseeable future, Portland look set to make a run in MLS Cup playoffs this term with new head coach Phil Neville at the helm alongside new signings Kamal Miller and Maxime Crepeau.

The Timbers' 2024 season kicks-off on February 24 vs Colorado Rapids and their first-year boss Chris Armas at Providence Park.
