The Portland Timbers have extended the contract of defender Josecarlos Van Rankin, keeping him at the club for the remainder of the 2022 Major League Soccer season.
The Timbers also retain a purchase option on the full back.
Van Rankin originally joined in 2021 from Liga MX side Chivas de Guadalajara, managing three assists and 33 appearances during his first season with the Timbers. He helped Giovanni Savarese’s side conquer the Western Conference last year, reaching the MLS Cup at Providence Park before losing 4-2 on penalties to New York City FC.
He continues to be a staple for head coach Savarese, starting in all 15 of his appearances this season and helping the Timbers to eighth on the Western Conference table.
Prior to his involvement in Major League Soccer, Van Rankin featured for Santos Laguna, Pumas UNAM and Chivas de Guadalajara. Internationally, he’s made one appearance with the Mexican national team.
Van Rankin and the Portland Timbers return to action on Sunday when visiting Nashville SC at GEODIS Park.
