Popovic saga takes another twist at Napoli after Frosinone blunder | OneFootball

Matija Popovic still hasn’t signed his contract with Napoli following his medicals, with a mistake by Frosinone causing everything to grind to a halt.

The 18-year-old Serbian forward has been an intriguing figure in Serie A’s January transfer window. He initially appeared to be a step away from joining Milan before everything collapsed due to the requested agent commissions.

Juventus then emerged and opened talks with Popovic, but they too were unable to find an agreement regarding the fees for his representatives. This allowed Napoli to swoop in, but their lack of a non-EU player slot in their squad forced them to come up with a solution involving Frosinone.

As detailed by Gianluca Di Marzio, everything went well in Popovic’s medicals with Napoli but he hasn’t signed his contract yet because Frosinone do not have a non-EU player slot available either, despite initially believing so.

The 18-year-old is now stuck in limbo and Napoli are hoping Monza can be their saviour; Raffaele Palladino’s side have three non-EU player slots available and are now in talks with Popovic and the Partenopei.
