Chivas surrendered a two-goal lead as they lost to Puebla on Saturday and defender Miguel Ponce confessed their hubris played a big part.
Los Rojiblancos outplayed their opponents in the opening 45 minutes and despite goals from Alexis Vega and Ponce the hosts weren’t able to stem the Puebla attacks in the second half.
“We were playing very well but unfortunately, the team was overconfident and that affected us,” Ponce revealed to Mediatiempo.
“In this game, we showed two different sides. A spectacular first half where the team was playing very well, we dominated everything but in the second we were overconfident.
“Puebla also advanced their lines and we didn’t know how to handle it, we acted like the game was already won and paid the price.”
Chivas have an opportunity to get back to winning ways on Wednesday when they travel to San Luis.
