France’s group D at the Euro 2024 is now complete. Les Bleus were drawn last December with Austria, The Netherlands and the winners of the Path A playoffs. After respectively seeing off Finland and Estonia, Wales and Poland locked horns at the Cardiff City Stadium this Tuesday – whilst France defeated Chile – for the final spot for the Germany-hosted tournament next summer. No team found the breakthrough in normal time, as well as in extra-time. Wales and Poland contested a high-stakes penalty shoot-out with a Euro 2024 spot on the line.

Leeds United’s Daniel James missed his side’s fifth spot-kick with Wojciech Szczesny stopping the former Manchester United man’s tame attempt. Poland won the shoot-out 5-4 and will reunite with France in an international tournament only 18 months after their RO16 clash during the 2022 World Cup, which France won 3-1.

As for Les Bleus, they will play two friendlies just before the Euros, at Bordeaux and Metz, against two unnamed sides. Then, the serious business will start on Monday, June 17, in Düsseldorf against Ralf Rangnick’s Austria. France will play their second group stage game against The Netherlands at Leipzig, on Friday, June 21. Four games later, Les Bleus will conclude their group stage against Poland at Dortmund.
