‘Pogboss’ – Manchester United midfielder credited as France’s biggest leader | OneFootball

Many Manchester United supporters have grown increasingly frustrated with Paul Pogba over the years, arguing that the 28-year-old saves his best performances for his national side. In truth, the former Juventus player is used differently on international level, as opposed to a more conservative role with United.

Pogba is believed to have been one of the driving factors behind France’s 2018 World Cup triumph, with his now-iconic motivational speech ahead of the final in Moscow a moment for the history books.

French newspaper L’Equipe, as relayed by Sport Witness, have hailed the midfielder as France’s ‘real leader’ and jokingly gave him the nickname ‘Pogboss’, poking fun at the United player’s inclination to twist his name to whichever situation he finds himself in.

“Tuesday, an hour before kick in Munich, he took the floor in front of his teammates. His voice wasn’t the usual one, the one that messes with Antoine Griezmann or pokes fun at Kurt Zouma. No, it was the very loud one from before France-Argentina during the 2018 World Cup,” the publication wrote to highlight Pogba’s influence in the already star-studded France squad.

“He basically invited his teammates to show solidity and solidarity. He added that France weren’t there to win just one game, but to win the tournament.”

Pogba, who was seen at the centre of the United huddle just as his side prepared for a penalty shootout in the Europa League final, is often portrayed as the ‘class clown’ but appears less so behind closed doors.
