Paul Pogba allegedly shouted “he fucked with the wrong baller” when he heard the news of José Mourinho’s sacking.

At least, that’s according to The Sun, who also claim that Pogba was given a dressing down by Michael Carrick for his over-exuberant celebration of Mourinho’s departure.

According to numerous reports over the last couple of seasons, Pogba and Mourinho never really saw eye-to-eye during the time they shared at Old Trafford, and the Frenchman was left on the bench for the entirety of Sunday’s 3-1 defeat away at Liverpool.

The Portuguese tactician was given his marching orders on Tuesday morning, and the players were informed at the club’s Carrington training ground soon afterwards.

The Sun claim most of the squad were delighted by the news and Pogba was the main orchestrator of the celebrations, shouting: “He thought he could make a fool of me and turn the fans against me. He fucked with the wrong baller.”

But Carrick – who played for United for 12 years and became Mourinho’s assistant manager in the summer – is said to have quickly stepped in and reminded the players that nobody is bigger than the club.

Red Devils bosses are also understood to be unhappy with a poorly timed photograph which was posted to Pogba’s official social media channels in the hour after Mourinho was sacked.

The Frenchman claims a photograph of him smirking accompanied by the words “Caption this” was a pre-scheduled post from his sponsors which bore no relation to the Mourinho news was was subsequently deleted.

Former United captain Gary Neville believes Pogba’s excuse is “garbage” and reports suggest the club will issue the World Cup winner with a fine.
