Frank McGarvey and Tommy Sheridan are back with the fifth edition of their new podcast ‘I’m Frank and He’s Tommy Podcast’ after a wee interruption caused by the international break.

The emergence of this entertaining podcast, featuring one of Celtic’s all-time top goal scorers has apparently helped to raise Frank McGarvey’s profile once again – Tommy tells us that the former Celtic striker been invited onto Brian McClair’s podcast and was even invited to Celtic Park for the Ross County game for hospitality, as a guest of former team-mate and club ambassador Roy Aitken, and he certainly  enjoyed his pre-match meal!

Roy Aitken Feeds Frank McGarvey …

McGarvey, as he usually does indulges in some great 1980s memories, this time involving Roy Aitken’s assist for his first goal against Rangers at Celtic Park shortly after he signed for the club and also his last goal, the winner in the 1985 Scottish Cup Final over Dundee Utd.

McGarvey describes Aitken as his all-time favourite Celtic player and gives his reasons for holding that opinion.

While at Celtic Park as a guest of The Bear, McGarvey reveals that he met the Celtic Chairman Ian Bankier who he says could not have been nicer, treating McGarvey like a King. It’s just a pity having decent manners doesn’t filter all the day down the staff at Celtic Park.

Frank was also delighted that Celtic won while keeping a clean sheet and he seems to return to the importance of having a strong defence time and time again on this podcast. This time he tells the story of working as the co-commentator on Celtic TV in the season that Celtic reached the UEFA Cup Final in Seville. Frank apparently spent the entire season pointing out that while Martin O’Neill had done a great job sorting out the Celtic defence, he had a blind-spot when it came to his goalkeepers and that’s what cost him dear that season.

McGarvey then tells the story about what happened next on his role on Celtic TV. He was asked to continue for the following season but while he had been paid for his work previously he was asked to work FOR FREE. He reckons it was just an easy way of Celtic getting rid of him and he’d not really been invited back at Celtic until Roy Aitken’s invitation for the Ross County game. Tommy has a few words to say about the Celtic Chairman and the PLC Board!

Sheridan is pretty worried at the Celtic defending himself, and bemoans the four soft goals lost in Seville against Real Betis. For the first 25 minutes, he says, Celtic looked like world beaters, but for the rest of the game they looked like panel beaters. No offence was meant to any panel beaters reading this.

Have a listen, it’s certainly entertaining and this is the best edition yet of the new ‘I’m Frank and He’s Tommy Podcast’….
