Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that he doesn’t know if Tottenham Hotspur are actively pursuing the re-signing of Gareth Bale or not.

After months of Bale’s agent insisting that his client is not thinking of leaving Real Madrid any time soon, Zinedine Zidane revealed on Saturday evening that Real Madrid are currently in the process of securing a transfer for the Wales international.

“Bale did not play because he is very close to leaving,” explained Zidane. “We hope he leaves soon, it would be best for everyone. We are working on his transfer to a new team.

“I have nothing personal against him, but there is a time where things are done because they must be done. I have to make decisions, we have to change.”

While very few media outlets have much solid information about a potential destination for the 29-year-old, some have suggested that a return to Spurs could be a possibility, although his current £600,000-a-week wages would present a significant stumbling block for the North London club.

Speaking after Spurs’ 3-2 pre-season win over Juventus in Singapore – a game in which Harry Kane scored a stunning goal from the half-way line – Mauricio Pochettino claimed he didn’t know if last seasons Champions League finalists were interested in resigning the Welshman or not.

“I saw in the media but I do not know which club is working to try to sign him,” he said.

“At the moment I do not have any information from my chairman. I don’t know if it is us or another club. It is not my job. It is the job of my chairman who is trying to build the best possible squad.”

There has also been speculation that PSG could be interested in signing Bale in swap deal with wantaway Brazilian forward, Neymar.
