Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is about to be handed even more power at Chelsea in transfer decisions going forward, according to a report this week.

Pochettino enjoyed a rare win in the league last night beating Fulham 2-0, and he will be hoping this will now become the turning point in the club now climbing up the table and making more of a push to get European football this season.

It was widely reported that Pochettino wanted to bring more Premier League proven players in the summer, but it didn’t really happen.

But according to insider Ben Jacobs, writing in his latest Chelsea column for SPTC today, Pochettino will once again push for Premier League proven players in the winter transfer window and will now get much more of a say in these decisions and operations.

Jacobs believes this could lead to someone like Ivan Toney from Brentford being pursued.

He says: “In January we’ll see Pochettino have a real say on how the money is spent and he is keen on Premier League-proven quality. This may mean Chelsea favour Toney or choose to buy slightly older. A lot will also depend on where the team are in the table come January.

“It’s not that Pochettino didn’t have a say last summer. Quite the opposite. It’s just that some plans (particularly for the younger or ‘future’ signings) were already in place before he was appointed.”
