Chelsea face a crucial decision on the future of manager Mauricio Pochettino after a hugely underwhelming season.

Despite the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City and a recent thrashing at Arsenal, a definitive call on Pochettino hasn’t been made, per Telegraph Sport.

The Blues limped out of the FA Cup after a typical showing. They created the better chances, but striker Nicolas Jackson squandered several opportunities.

The Premier League has not offered much respite to the Argentine manager, and he continued his abysmal record of never winning at the Emirates Stadium last night.

Chelsea were mullered by a rampant Arsenal side that made the Blues’ tactical set-up look inept.

They have conceded 57 goals after 32 games – their worst defensive record in the Premier League with six games to go.

His selections, substitutions and tactics have caused frustration among the fanbase, but he somehow still enjoys pockets of support within the club.

There’s a recognition of the challenging circumstances he’s navigated, including inheriting a very young squad.

This understanding has tempered the blame solely directed at Pochettino for Chelsea’s struggles.

Chelsea are an attractive proposition for top managers, and potential replacements will line up if Pochettino leaves.

With a challenging six-game run-in featuring clashes against Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, Pochettino’s task of securing European qualification seems daunting.

Failure to reach continental competition will intensify scrutiny ahead of the end-of-season review by the club’s owners and sporting directors.

Pochettino has to go, along with the sporting directors

Pochettino deserves some sympathy for inheriting a young squad and the blame cannot all rest on the former Paris Saint-Germain boss.

The leaky defence, imbalanced midfield and impotent attack point to a deeper issue. This squad isn’t built to compete – it’s a haphazard collection of players that lacks cohesion.

The blame lies squarely with the sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley who assembled this mess.

Chelsea need a clean break. Pochettino should take the fall, but his departure alone won’t solve the underlying problems.

The sporting directors who sanctioned these questionable signings must also go. Only then can Chelsea begin rebuilding with a clear vision and a competent team behind the scenes.
