League One side Plymouth Argyle are interested in signing Fulham defender Conor McAvoy, according to Football Insider.

The league leaders, alongside Scottish Premiership duo Aberdeen and Hearts, have shown an interest in signing the 20-year-old this month.

McAvoy is a product of the youth academy at Fulham, and the defender has now entered the final six months of his contract at Craven Cottage.

The young man has been at the club since 2018, but has still yet to make an appearance in the first team set up.

However, McAvoy has featured for the club’s under-23s in Premier League 2 this season, playing 14 times and registering one goal.

The closest the defender came to appearing for the first team was when he made it onto the bench in the EFL Cup game against Crawley Town earlier this season.

While playing for Fulham’s under-23 side, he has been able to show his versatility, as McAvoy’s more known position is centre-back but this season he has also featured at right back and left back.

The starlet had his first spell away from the club last season as he joined non-league side Wealdstone on loan for the campaign. The 20-year-old made 28 appearances for the club and managed to score two goals.

Now it seems McAvoy could be set to move away from Fulham on a permanent basis, as Plymouth, Aberdeen, and Hearts register their interest in the defender.

The Verdict

Plymouth are continuing to lead the way in League One and look on course to be promoted to the Championship.

However, Steven Schumacher will know there is still a long way to go in the season, and while his team is playing well and winning games of football, he will want to add to his squad. Argyle, despite being top of the league, don’t have the best defensive record in the league, and therefore, it may be an area of concern for the Plymouth boss as they head into the second half of the campaign.

McAvoy is obviously unknown in the EFL, but Plymouth aren’t shy about bringing in unproven players, as they have done it previously.
