Plenty more to come from Liverpool says Beard

Liverpool manager Matt Beard says that there’s plenty more to come from his side this season off the back of their positive start.

The Reds have taken 10 points from an available 15 in this season’s Barclays Women’s Super League and a top half of the table finish looks likely.

Despite Liverpool’s solid start, manager Beard says that his team are still gelling and he believes that there is much more to come in the months ahead.

“We are playing well,” Beard said when speaking in a Liverpool press conference. “I thought Wednesday (against Manchester City) was an interesting game, especially for the neutral.

“I am pleased with how we are progressing and there’s still a lot more to come from the team. That’s the most pleasing part, we’ve got relationships still being built on the pitch and those will develop with the more games that we play.

“We’ve been pleased with how we have started the season and how the players have settled and progressed. There are plenty of positives and I know that there’s a lot more to come from the team.”

Liverpool face Tottenham Hotspur at Brisbane Road this afternoon. Spurs are another side that have impressed in the early weeks of the season. Beard knows that his side will need to deal with the goal threat of the league’s top scorer, Martha Thomas.

He said “It’s going to be a good game. I’ve been really impressed with how they’ve been playing, they’ve been scoring goals.

“I know Martha Thomas well and she has had a great impact for them. We need to be mindful of her because Martha can run in behind, come to feet, she can score all types of goals. We need to keep Martha quiet.

“I’ve been really impressed with them, they’ve had a great start and it is going to be a tough game again.”

Liverpool’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Tottenham Hotspur kicks-off at 12.30pm this afternoon.
