MK Dons boss Russell Martin has confirmed that experienced defender Richard Keogh is set to step back up to the Championship after a fee was agreed for his services.

The 34-year-old was given a chance by Martin back in August, nearly a full year after he was involved in a car crash that left him with a severely damaged knee.

Keogh’s involvement in the incident saw his contract at Derby County terminated due to gross misconduct, and at the time it was unclear as to whether he would actually play football again.

The Ireland international has recovered though and has put in some stellar performances for the Dons this season, and as a player who is used to playing it out from the back he has been a real asset to Martin’s system.

It seems as though Keogh may be getting one last chance in the second tier though, with a mystery club coming in for his services.

It isn’t the Rams who are returning for Keogh, but he looks likely to be heading back to a former club as BBC Radio Derby (via HTAFC_STATTO on Twitter) revealed that Huddersfield Town are the team in question.

Keogh had a spell on loan at the Terriers in 2007 and looks set to return to West Yorkshire as Carlos Corberan is desperate for a centre-back, with injuries to Christopher Schindler, Naby Sarr, Tommy Elphick and Richard Stearman meaning that the Terriers boss is short on defensive options.

As expected it has come as a real shock to Huddersfield fans, who have been reacting to the rumours on Twitter.
