Plaza Amador will aim to close out the Group Stage with a perfect record after booking its spot in the Quarterfinals thanks to a 3-2 win over Managua FC last Tuesday. Everardo Rose, José Murillo and Jorlian Sánchez got on the scoresheet with Rose and Sánchez scoring their third of the tournament.

Alianza FC will look to bounce back after its 1-nil loss against defending champions LD Alajuelense. The Salvadoran club currently sits fourth in Group A with four points and will strive for a win to increase its chances of a top two finish.

Historic series

This will be the first-ever meeting between CD Plaza Amador and Alianza FC in the history of the Concacaf Central American Cup. For the Panamanian side, it will mark their fifth official match against a Salvadoran club, although they are still seeking their first win. Plaza Amador has faced Salvadoran teams twice in the Champions Cup (1 draw, 1 loss) and twice in the Interclub Cup (2 losses), for an overall record of 3 defeats and 1 draw.

The only time Plaza Amador avoided defeat against a Salvadoran opponent was on May 23, 1993, when they played to a 2-2 draw with Luis Ángel Firpo in the first leg of the Central American first round in the Concacaf Champions Cup. That match, played at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City, saw Hernán Lorenzo and Jesús González score for the hosts, while José García and Édgar Henríquez found the net for the visitors. Despite the draw, Luis Ángel Firpo went on to win the series with a dominant 8-2 aggregate.

For Alianza FC, this will be their first encounter with a Panamanian club in the Central American Cup. However, they have a history of nine previous matches against Panamanian sides in various official competitions. Their record includes two wins in the Champions Cup, three victories and one loss in the Scotiabank Concacaf League, and two wins and one loss in the Interclub Cup, totaling seven wins and two defeats.

The most recent loss for the “Elephants” against a Panamanian team came on August 29, 2019, in the second leg of the Concacaf League Round of 16, when they fell 1-0 to Tauro FC at Estadio Rommel Fernández. Freddy Góndola scored the lone goal of that match.
