If a player performs well in Série A and is not too old, chances are European teams will try to pry them away from Brazil.
While some clubs in Europe’s top leagues will be relying on Santa Claus, the intrepid ones are poring over the Brasileirão for players who can help them.
The following names are players likely to cross the Atlantic Ocean over the upcoming transfer window based on their positive play and promising age.
Reaching the final of a South American cup can have its drawbacks. Beyond the glory of moment, deep runs in a cup will put a spotlight from European clubs on players.
One player who fits this bill is Renan Lodi in the Copa Sudamericana. Still at just the age of 20, the left-back already has a number of great matches under his belt for Atlético Paranaense.
If the club want to strive on and jockey for prestige within Brazil, the Hurricane may opt to keep the player. Not wanting to help a rival could mean any sale of the promising defender would be directly to Europe.
The Palmeiras winger was one of the best players in the Série A this year. His superb league campaign could make the 26-year-old a target on the far side of the Atlantic. With a difficult stint at Dynamo Kyiv behind him, Dudu will be better able to adapt to a change of scenery.
The Grêmio forward has excelled in domestic leagues and in the club’s 2017 Copa Libertadores run. At just 22-years-old, Éverton now has two appearances for the Brazil national team and is ready for a move abroad.
The young forward was leading the league with 10 goals through 19 games for Fluminense before picking up an injury to the meniscus in his right knee.
Pedro was called into the national team camp but did not appear for the Seleção.
Perhaps the injury from August will scare potential suitors away but the 21-year-old should still drum up considerable interest from abroad.
Veiga played on the left wing played for Atlético-PR this year on a season-long loan from Palmeiras.
The 23-year-old performed well on loan and may have enticed the league champions to give him a shot in the first-team. If that doesn’t happen, look for the player to leave the Verdão two years into his five-year contract.
The young centre back has played well this season and even saved Botafogo from conceding on a number of occasions.
Still only 23-years-old, Rabello is dynamic and adaptable. If Botafogo does not sell him to a European club, they may end up regretting so if he joins a domestic rival.
Cruzeiro’s most highly valued player is 24-year-old versatile midfielder Giorgian De Arrascaeta.
Having made his senior debut with the Uruguay national team in 2014, Arrascaeta was among the last players cut from the World Cup squad in 2018.
Cruzeiro have apparently set his transfer valuation near €20m, enough to ward off domestic clubs but not those from European leagues.
Another player from Atlético Paranaense graces this list; the team’s centre forward Pablo.
If the club wins their Copa Sudamericana series on Wednesday 12 December, and therefore qualify for next year’s Copa Libertadores tournament, they will commit themselves to retaining their line-leading striker. If not, expect the 26-year-old to test out the waters of the January transfer window.
Rodrigo Dourado’s performances in the middle of the pitch helped Internacional stay in the top four for most of the Série A campaign.
The 24-year-old midfielder has drawn the interest of AC Milan and the Olympic gold medalist may be linking up with Lucas Paquetá in Italy in the near future.
