Celtic have been very successful on the pitch in recent years. But that does not mean that they have not faced their fair share of issues, because there are most certainly areas where the Hoops need to improve. One of them has to be providing a proper pathway for the academy standouts to make it into the senior team and get chances.
To be very honest, in recent years, those chances have not been coming. So, it is no surprise that many have chosen to leave the club early on in their careers rather than wait for the opportunities to come at Parkhead.
Ben Doak was handed two appearances by then-Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou, very early on, including one in the Glasgow Derby. But that was not enough to convince him to stay at the club.
Doak would go on to join Liverpool. It is believed that Celtic received a compensation fee of around £600,000. He has made some appearances for the Anfield side since then but despite that, it looks like they are set to pocket a significant transfer profit in the summer.
As reported by The Sun, Liverpool chiefs are due to decide on Doak’s future this summer but insiders believe he will be transferred. The Premier League club's asking fee for the winger will be close to £25 million.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Doak. But it looks like it lies away from Anfield, and he won't be making the grade at Liverpool.
Of course, there is not going to be any lack of interest in his signature, if Doak does end up leaving Liverpool in the summer. There have been some rumours about a Celtic return in the past but considering the asking fee, there is no chance of that happening at this point.
