Following Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Everton yesterday, Manchester City failed to close the gap at the summit of the Premier League table to two points after they lost 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Sunday evening.

Spurs took the lead just 15 minutes in when Harry Kane capitalised on a Rodri error, on the edge of City’s area.

The goal by England’s captain proved to be enough as City’s misery at Spurs’ new ground continues, with the Blues winless and goalless in five straight visits.

Here’s how we rated the players in City’s dismal 1-0 defeat.

Ederson – 6

Left hopeless with the goal, Ederson’s distribution was decent and had little to do all game.

Rico Lewis – 6

Another good performance from City’s breakthrough star. Lewis was solid defensively, making a few impressive tackles and interceptions. However, he was caught in possession a couple of times.

Kyle Walker – 5

A middle of the road performance, Walker was average all game.

The 32-year-old left a lot to be desired going forward, with many crosses not even beating the first man, abut was good enough defensively.

Manuel Akanji – 5

Although he didn’t have much to do, Akanji looked wobbly whenever he was asked questions by the Spurs attack. A failure to tackle Kane in the City penalty area in the second half comes to mind.

Nathan Ake – 6

Solid enough. Ake didn’t really put a foot wrong in position or defensively.

Rodri – 3

Rather shockingly, the Spaniard was to blame for Spurs’ first goal when he played a suicide ball on the edge of his own area. Rodri carried on in a similar fashion all game and didn’t look himself. A performance to forget.

Bernardo Silva – 5

Initially starting in midfield and then moving out wide, Bernardo progressed the ball well but, again like all of City’s forward players struggled, in the final third.

Riyad Mahrez – 4.5

Following a quiet start, the Algerian struck the bar late in first-half in an effort which he should have done better. He was subbed for Kevin De Bruyne in the 58th minute.

Jack Grealish – 5.5

Despite most of City’s play being funnelled down Grealish’s side, he struggled to create anything. The £100m man was often found stood up against Emerson Royal and either tackled or turned back around. On the rare occasion Grealish got in behind, his final ball was poor.

Erling Haaland – 5

A rare quiet game for the Norwegian. Haaland offered nothing for City, but did make a some good runs in the first half.

Julian Alvarez – 5.5

Brought in for Kevin De Bruyne, Álvarez struggled to really impose himself on the game with nothing of note to report, apart from a few pop shots in the second half.

Substitutes:

Kevin De Bruyne – 5

Replacing Mahrez in the second half, KDB really struggled to change any of City’s fortunes.

Ilkay Gundogan – N/A
