Paris Saint-Germain cruised to a 3-0 win over a Strasbourg at the Parc des Princes on their return to action following the International

Les Parisiens expectedly dominated the early stages of the game with the ball, with some clever combination play down the right side between Bradley Barcola and Carlos Soler leading to a penalty for the home side within the first ten minutes of play. Kylian Mbappé, who shined during the international break for Les Bleus dispatched low to the left of Sels to open the scoring for PSG, and mark the Bondy-born attacker’s first goal since scoring against Dortmund in the Champions League a calendar month ago. The France captain thus ending a four game scoreless run for the Rouge et Bleu.

Strasbourg reacted well to going behind, and thought they had equalised through a close-range header from striker Lebo Mothiba, but celebrations were cut short when referee Bastien Dechepy consulted VAR and ruled out the goal for an offside on the forward.

The offside goal was perhaps a warning sign for Luis Enrique’s side, as PSG endeavoured to re-establish their dominance on the game with chances though Soler and Barcola. It was the former who managed to double the Parisian lead over Les Alsatiens: some neat dribbling from Mbappé down the right side opened up the Strasbourg defence for a pinpoint pass to the Spaniard, who dispatched for his first goal in PSG colours.

The second half saw Strasbourg try to push on occasion to get back into the game, yet Patrick Vieria’s men weren’t incisive enough on the counter-attack or quick enough in the build up to really threaten the home side. PSG took full advantage of this in the 77th minute, as Fabian Ruiz delightfully skipped past several Strasbourg defenders and poked home Les Parisiens’ third goal of the afternoon. It was a goal which ultimately put the game to bed, assisted by the second goalscorer of the day Carlos Soler.

Paris Saint-Germain Player Ratings:

Giunluigi Donnarumma, 5

Bradley Barcola, 7  – Likely the one of the brighter matches in a PSG shirt so far for the former Lyon man,  starting in Enrique’s XI for the third occasion. The youngster was dangerous down the left side with some incisive running and combinations with Vitinha, Ramos, and Mbappé.

Danilo Pereira, 6

Marquinhos, 5

Lucas Hernandez, 5

Carlos Soler, 6

Fabian Ruiz, 6

Vitinha, 5

Kang-In Lee, 6 – a promising display on his return to action for PSG. The South Korean combined well with Kylian Mbappé down the left and offered himself as a good outlet ball under pressure.

Gonçalo Ramos, 4

Kylian Mbappé, 7 – The France captain brings his good form for the national team back to his club side, managing to score his first goal in four games for Les Parisiens (he previously scored against Dortmund). Mbappé was full of his usual flicks and tricks, also offering the assist for PSG’s second goal of the afternoon with a dangerous low cross.

Racing Club de Strasbourg Player Ratings:

Matt Sels, 4

Thomas Delaine, 5

Lucas Perrin, 5

Gerzino Nyamsi, 4

Marvin Seneyga, 5

Jesse Deminguet, 5

Ismael Doukouré, 5

Habib Diarra, 4

Junior Mwanga, 5

Dilane Bakwa, 5

Lebo Mothiba, 6 – The striker was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet – his goal in the 12th minute was evidently ruled out for offside, but it was somewhat marginal and the South African proved to be the biggest threat for the Alsatiens going forward. The number 12 surely stakes a claim in Patrick Vieira’s side going forward.
