A Bruno Fernandes-led Portugal beat Uruguay 2-0 to sail through to the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup.
While many thought that Fernandes’ first goal was given to Cristiano Ronaldo, the striker never got a touch of the ball before it went in and the goal was awarded to the Manchester United man. The second goal came in the second half, as the midfielder slotted away a penalty and missed out scoring a hat-trick.
Key performers
Diogo Costa, 7: The Porto goalkeeper was vital in keeping the scoreline at 0-0 in the first half as he made a brilliant save to deny Rodrigo Bentancur. And he was vital in making sure that Luis Suarez’s shot in the second half went wide. The 23-year-old’s sweeping off the line was rapid, suggesting as to why he’s a highly rated goalkeeper right now.
Rodrigo Bentancur: 7: The Tottenham midfielder was, by far, Uruguay’s best player and also had their best chance of the game after he had gone past a host of Portugal players to set himself up. The midfielder covered a lot of ground, played one key pass and won two tackles in a complete performance.
