Liverpool 2 – 2 Crystal Palace – Community Shield Player Ratings

The community shield headed to penalties after the in game score draw, with a lively encounter ensuing within an excited Wembley setting. The reds would lose the shootout with some weak penalties.

The lineup and subsequent ratings are listed below.

OneFootball Videos

Alisson Becker – 9.0

The giant Brazilian stopper was superb in stopping a good chance early on as he smothered a one-on-one opportunity; however, moments later, a precise penalty was dispatched beyond him to level the score.

After the restart, the Reds keeper was again at his best to dispel pressure, with one notable low save to deny Eze. Could do little for the equaliser as his defence let him down somewhat.

Man of the match

Jeremie Frimpong – 7.0

The Dutch international was given the first opportunity to take the right-back spot, as Conor Bradley missed out with yet another injury. From the outset, the former Bayer Leverkusen wing-back was industrious and scored a lovely goal which was probably more of a lofted cross from the angle.

In the second half, the jet-heeled wide-man was

Milos Kerkez – 6.0

The Hungary international was a keen outlet from the outset, adding decent balance and assurance. Frimpong was more winger than a fullback on the opposing flank.

After the half-time break, the former Bournemouth man was solid if unspectacular as he showed his maturity.

Subbed – 83 mins

Ibrahima Konaté  – 7.0

The France international defender started the game as a man forced into battle as he and Mateta undertook a physical duel.

In the second period, the former RB Leipzig man was embroiled in more on-pitch warfare as Palace tried to overpower their illustrious opponents.

Virgil van Dijk – 6.0

The captain and leader of this team was unlucky for the penalty conceded as he mistimed a challenge just inside the box. The 34-year-old was still authoritative and organised his backline against a well-drilled attack. After the intermission, the former Celtic giant was perhaps guilty of being too relaxed as he lost Sarr for the second Palace goal.

Dominik Szoboszlai – 7.0

The Hungarian captain was tasked with a midfield double pivot and was more box-to-box than his midfield partner in a busy first half, one that saw him assist Jeremie Frimpong for his team’s second goal.

As the game resumed, the former RB Leipzig star was less productive as he looked to close down opposition attacks through the middle of the pitch.

Curtis Jones – 6.0

The versatile midfielder was more controlled than dynamic as he chose to take up smart positions as the game flowed around him.

After the half-time break, the England international was steady and produced on the ball as a screen, however, his defensive deficiencies allowed a number of counterattacks to stem.

Subbed – 71 mins

Florian Wirtz – 7.0

The German international was able to assist with the game’s opening goal as he looked to be the link between midfield and attack in an intriguing first half.

After the break the £116m summer signing was

Subbed – 83 mins

Cody Gakpo – 5.0

The Dutch attacker was a little subdued in the first half as much of the play found its way in and around the opposite flank.

In the second half, the goal-scoring wide man was again a little on the outside as he could not get into a rhythm reminiscent of his best game.

Hugo Ekitike – 7.0

The France attacker was able to open his Liverpool account with a very clean goal as he used his dribbling ability and clinical edge to find the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.

In the second period, the former Bundesliga forward was unlucky not to score straight after the restart as he headed wide of the far post.

Mohamed Salah – 7.0

The Egyptian King was lively and productive on the ball as he looked to engage with new faces around him in a low-key first-half performance.

In the second 45 minutes, the record-breaking attacker was a little peripheral as he seemed to be just a moment from creating something substantial.

Substitutions;

Alexis Mac Allister – 7.0 (on 61)

Came on to add a little more control.

Wataru Endo – 6.0 (on 61)

Came on to add defensive intelligence.

Harvey Elliott – 6.0 (on 84)

Came on to try and find a winner.

Andy Robertson – 6.0 (on 84)

Came on to add tenacity.

The Manager:

Arne Slot – 7.0

The Dutch head coach was able to pick much from his preferred starting eleven and would have been happy with the semi-serious game state.

Steven Smith’s Pre-match Prediction;

Liverpool 2 – 0 Crystal Palace
