Fabio da Silva, 4 – Positionally poor, one such lapse should have resulted in a goal for Boudaoui.

Pedro Chirivella, 6 – Alongside Girotto, his bullish, all-action performance, complete with some intense early pressing, laid the foundations for what was a superb Nantes’ display overall. They deserved far better, despite the score line.

Ludovic Blas, 4 – Very much on the fringes with so much focus being on Nantes’ wingers and the game passed him by a little despite some neat touches in combination play and providing a curling cross from which Kolo-Muani hit the bar.

Osman Bukari, 6 – Provided balance and a double threat in tandem with Simon on the other wing, not quite as prominent with Bard a tough opponent but his pace and skill proved a creative force. Nearly scored a stunning slaloming individual effort in the second half.

Moses Simon, 8 – Often thrillingly beat defenders with his speed and trickery and came excruciatingly close to scoring the opener but was denied by Lemina’s sliding goal line block. He’s come a long way in the last year. A half-vollied scuffed effort at the back post at 0-0 was a sizable error however.

Randal Kolo-Muani, 5 – Showed flashes of his quality but was outshone by both wide men and he really should have scored from close range in the first half, hitting the bar.

Others: Coulibaly 4, Cyprien 5, Coco 5, Traoré 5, Moutoussammy 5.

NICE – 2 (Dolberg 75, Gouiri 80)

Walter Benitez, 6 – Kept a clean sheet via a sequence of smart stops while he handled repeated barrages from the wings well throughout.

Flavius Daniliuc, 4 – Didn’t do too much wrong in truth but struggled to handle the pace and skill of Moses Simon.

Jean-Clair Todibo, 6

Melvin Bard, 7 – Strong defensively throughout and handled the flying Bukari well, often playing his way out of trouble with confidence. His whipped cross assisted Dolberg’s (latest) stunning chested finish for the crucial opener.

Hicham Boudaoui, 3 – Played with hunger and worked hard but nothing really worked out for him, wasting three major chances to affect the game. Deciding to pass when he had space to control and shoot from close range with only Lafont to beat was a low point.

Mario Lemina, 6 – Found worthy foes in Girotto and Chirivella but used the ball neatly in the second half and hit the bar with a header early on. A miraculous sliding goal line clearance from Simon’s shot at 0-0 was a turning point.

Pablo Rosario, 5

Calvin Stengs, 4 – Very little impact on the game overall and struggled to break Nantes’ early press.

Amine Gouiri, 6 – Despite flashes of class but this wasn’t his most devastating display this season, largely due to Nantes’ pressing and lack of service but he beautifully orchestrated the second late on, playing a one-two with Delort before tucking home. Came close to a jinking third only to be halted by Lafont.

Kasper Dolberg, 7 – Much like Gouiri, his supply chain was largely often cut off but scored a stunning, diving chested opener which effectively won the game and was involved in the second too.
